Docent och biträdande professor i kulturgeografi

Jag har en tidigare yrkeskarriär inom transportsektorn, där jag arbetade med bland annat trafikproduktion och trafikplanering. Periodvis har jag fungerat som utredare inom utbildningssektorn och som konsult i trafikfrågor, bland annat vid länsstyrelsen i Stockholms län.

Efter disputationen fick jag anställning vid Kulturgeografiska institutionen, Stockholms universitet. År 1992 blev jag universitetslektor med inriktning transportforskning och trafikplanering. Jag fungerade som övergripande studierektor och internationell koordinator till dess jag lämnade tjänsten 1998. Samma år utnämndes jag till docent vid Stockholms universitet.

När Södertörns högskola bildades deltog jag som förste kulturgeograf i uppbyggnaden. En tid var jag ämnesföreträdare samt projektledare och senare ansvarig för programmet ekonomi-logistik, vilket drevs i samarbete med Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan. Under 2003-2006 arbetade jag vid Handelshögskolan i Göteborg och återvände därefter till Södertörns högskola, där jag fortfarande är verksam. De senaste åren har jag ägnat åt utredningsarbete, undervisning och forskning. Min forskning är inriktad mot regional utveckling, transportinfrastruktur och turism.

Stig Svallhammar

Ph.D., M.A., Associate Professor, Human Geography

I was previously engaged in transport planning and work on enquiry committees. While writing my doctoral thesis I was employed as a teacher at the Department of Human Geography, University of Stockholm. After taking my doctoral degree, I obtained a permanent post as Senior Lecturer at the Department of Human Geography in 1992 with transport research and traffic planning as my speciality. I kept this post until 1998, the same year I received my readership. Parallel with my teaching and research, I also acted as Director of Studies and international co-ordinator at the Department.

When the new University at Södertörn, outside Stockholm, was started I was the first Human Geographer to take part in the build-up of the institution. For a time, I was in charge of Human Geography and project co-ordinator, later responsible for the economic-logistic teaching programme, run in collaboration with the Royal Institute of Technology. During 2003-2006 I held a post at the University of Gothenburg, School of Business, Economics and Law, and after that I returned to Södertörn University. For the last years I have devoted myself mainly to investigations, tuition and research.

My research is focused on regional development, transport infrastructure and tourism.
